Googleโ€™s Android operating system hides eight littleโ€‘known features that many users never discover, according to Android Authority, and those tricks are keeping people glued to their phones. The list was published on Tuesday and includes shortcuts for battery health, privacy settings, and app management that arenโ€™t advertised in Googleโ€™s marketing. The article says the features are built into the system but are buried deep in menus, meaning most owners never see them.

The revelation matters because Android faces stiff competition from Appleโ€™s iPhone, which markets its own hidden tricks more openly. Over the past few years Google has focused on broadening its ecosystem, adding new hardware partners and rolling out updates faster than before. Yet the company rarely highlights the small, userโ€‘level enhancements that can improve everyday experience. By keeping these tools under the radar, Google can boost device loyalty without spending on flashy ads. Analysts say such silent upgrades help retain users who might otherwise switch platforms for perceived ease of use.

Among the eight features, the most useful is the โ€œBattery Usage Optimizerโ€ that lets users set perโ€‘app limits and see realโ€‘time drain graphs without thirdโ€‘party apps. Another is the โ€œPrivate DNSโ€ setting, which lets users enforce encrypted DNS queries to protect browsing data. Android also includes a โ€œQuick Shareโ€ gesture that lets users swipe two fingers to send files to nearby devices without opening the sharing menu. The โ€œApp Actionsโ€ shortcut can automatically suggest frequently used apps on the lock screen, while the โ€œScreen Timeโ€ dashboard offers a hidden view of daily usage broken down by category. Android Authority notes that these tools are accessible through a series of taps in Settings โ†’ System โ†’ Advanced, a path most users never explore.

Google has not commented on why the features are hidden, but the company may start surfacing them more prominently in future updates. Tech writers suggest that making these tools easier to find could improve user satisfaction and reduce churn. Meanwhile, Android enthusiasts are already sharing stepโ€‘byโ€‘step guides on social media, hoping the tricks will spread beyond the niche community. If the hidden gems become mainstream, they could give Android a subtle edge in the ongoing battle for smartphone supremacy.
