Cadillac has made a significant shake-up in its Formula 1 team, replacing team principal Graeme Lowdon with seasoned manager Marcin Budkowski ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix. This change comes after a disappointing start to the season, with Cadillac struggling to keep pace with competitors. The decision, announced by CEO Dan Towriss, reflects concerns over performance and a need for a clearer vision moving forward.

Cadillac's reorganization follows a challenging debut season in which the team has faced a myriad of difficulties. Since their entry into the championship in March 2025, they have struggled to find their footing, often lagging behind other teams. Currently, Cadillac is averaging 1.2 seconds slower per lap than the next slowest team, Williams. The team's performance has been further complicated by ongoing reliability issues, particularly with overheating brakes, which have led to multiple race retirements.

Towriss acknowledged that the decision to replace Lowdon came sooner than anticipated but emphasized the need for a strong technical leadership model. He highlighted the importance of having a clear vision for the future, similar to the successful approaches taken by teams like McLaren and Red Bull. The problems experienced by Cadillac have not only been about performance but also about internal issues such as a "blame culture" and team silos, which Towriss identified as hindering progress.

As the season continues, Cadillac faces the risk of falling further behind with only 12 races left on the 2026 schedule. The uncertainty surrounding potential races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi due to regional conflicts adds another layer of complexity. The team's ability to adapt and improve under Budkowski's leadership will be crucial in determining their competitiveness for the remainder of the season and beyond.
