(RTTNews) - President Trump is said to be planning to impose more sanctions on Iran. Investors are closely monitoring the geopolitical situation in the Middle East. In the Asian trading session, oil prices were sharply lower. Brent crude futures tumbled 1.8 percent to $92.72 a barrel. Gold extended gains. Spot gold was up 0.7 percent at $4,637 an ounce. Initial signs from the U.S. Futures Index suggest that Wall Street might open lower. As of 7.55 am ET, the Dow futures were declining 61.00 points, the S&P 500 futures were sliding 12.50 points and the Nasdaq 100 futures were down 157.75 points. The U.S. major averages all ended Friday in positive territory. The Dow jumped 517.80 points or 1 percent to 53,277.01, the Nasdaq climbed 113.29 points or 0.4 percent to 26,180.45 and the S&P 500 rose 33.21 points or 0.4 percent at 7,674.37. On the economic front, the Chicago Fed National Activity Index for July will be issued at 8.30 am ET. In the prior month, the Index was down 0.02. Six-month and 3-month Treasury bill auction will be held at 11.30 am ET. Asian stocks ended Monday's session mostly lower. China's Shanghai Composite index ended down 0.59 percent at 3,882.01. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index fell 1.89 percent to 25,517.33. Japanese markets fell notably. The Nikkei average dipped 0.74 percent to 65,528.09, while the broader Topix index settled 0.15 percent higher at 4,073.29. Australian markets ended higher. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 edged up 0.49 percent to 9,103.10. The broader All Ordinaries index closed 0.51 percent higher at 9,316.70.

As of 7.55 am ET, the Dow futures were declining 61.00 points, the S&P 500 futures were sliding 12.50 points and the Nasdaq 100 futures were down 157.75 points.

The U.S. major averages all ended Friday in positive territory. The Dow jumped 517.80 points or 1 percent to 53,277.01, the Nasdaq climbed 113.29 points or 0.4 percent to 26,180.45 and the S&P 500 rose 33.21 points or 0.4 percent at 7,674.37.
