The Tensor G6 is Google’s current flagship chipset, powering its flagship smartphone line, the Pixel 11 . The silicon series’ long-running focus on bolstering AI workloads continues with this release, with Google claiming significant gains over the Tensor G5 in daily tasks like web browsing and app launches, as well as machine learning-adjacent tasks. However, this also means that the Tensor G6 loses ground to the competition in other areas, namely gaming and raw performance metrics.
After my colleague Rob Triggs put the G6 through its paces , he came to the following conclusion:
This begs the question: Does Google’s Tensor G6 approach actually appeal to you, especially since it’s the chip that facilitates everything on the Pixel 11 lineup? We asked readers in a poll that ran alongside Rob’s breakdown of the chipset, and the results are detailed below.
The poll garnered over 2,800 votes from our readers, and the opinions are sharply divided on what the Tensor should focus on. 30.5% of respondents say that “efficiency” matters more than speed and grunt, while 34.3% claim otherwise, and would “rather have more raw performance.” Only 15.7% believe that the Tensor G6 currently strikes the perfect balance between the two.
