Spider-Man: Brand New Day is riding high in cinemas, but what does its mysterious post-credits scene mean? Find out below.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film picks up years after Spider-Man: No Way Home , which ended with Peter Parker closing a rift in the multiverse with a spell that made the entire world forget about him.

At the start of Brand New Day , he is living anonymously as he continues to protect New York, and begins to investigate a powerful new threat in the city.

Tom Holland returns as Peter, alongside Zendaya , Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo and Tramell Tillman. It was released in cinemas on July 31, and you can watch the trailer here:

In a four-star review of the film , NME wrote: ” Maturity, action and great storytelling combine to make a film that’s easily the best Tom Holland Spider-Man outing – and the best MCU movie of the decade. Where Peter fits in with the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday is unclear, but the young webslinger has grown up and become the type of hero this franchise sorely needs.”

The scene shows Ned’s (Jacob Batalon) electronic Spidey tracker app, which identifies the whereabouts of the web slinger. It initially shows Spider-Man as being in New York City as usual, but the app then glitches, its map rapidly zooms out from Earth and the tracker locates him in a random spot in outer space. A title card then pops up, reading: “Spider-Man will return”.

It appears to set up Spider-Man’s involvement in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday , which is set to be released on December 18, although it leaves the big questions unanswered.

Doomsday will bring together heroes from across several universes in the MCU as they unite to take on Robert Downey Jr. ’s Doctor Doom, and this post-credits scene introduces the prospect of Spider-Man being drawn from his day-to-day life on the streets of New York into the multiversal conflict.
