Aaron McKenna has declared his intention to dominate the middleweight division, positioning himself as the heir to boxing legends like Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez.

At just 24 years old, the Irish fighter captured the WBA (Regular) middleweight title last weekend with a unanimous decision victory over Italy’s Andrea Scarpino. The win marks his 19th straight victory and his 15th by knockout, cementing his status as a rising star in a division that has long been dominated by bigger names. McKenna’s polished skills and relentless pressure style have drawn comparisons to past champions, fueling excitement about his future.

The fight took place in Verona, Italy, where McKenna controlled the pace from the opening bell. Judges scored the bout 119-109, 118-110, and 118-110 in his favor, reflecting his dominance. Scarpino, a late replacement for a higher-ranked contender, struggled to keep up with McKenna’s speed and precision. Analysts praised McKenna’s footwork and power, particularly his left hook and straight right, which repeatedly rocked the Italian.

McKenna’s next target is clear: unification. The WBA (Regular) title he now holds is a stepping stone to the full WBA “Super” title, currently held by Erislandy Lara. After that, fights with unified champions like Jermall Charlo or even Canelo Alvarez himself could be on the table. With a promoter like Eddie Hearn behind him, McKenna has the platform to chase history. If he delivers, he could become the first middleweight from Ireland to hold a world title in over 30 years.
