The Japan stock market is poised for profit-taking as investors prepare to cash in after a significant rally that saw the Nikkei 225 index surge nearly 1,250 points, or 3.3 percent, over the past three sessions. The index closed just above the 40,280-point mark on Friday, but market sentiment suggests a potential retreat on Monday.

This market shift comes during a holiday-shortened trading week, which typically sees lower volume and heightened volatility. The global outlook for Asian markets appears mixed to lower, influenced by negative trends in U.S. stock markets on Friday. Technology stocks, which have been particularly volatile, are expected to weigh down the market. Europe experienced gains, but the U.S. indices finished the day sharply lower, with the Dow down 333.59 points and the NASDAQ dropping 298.37 points.

On Friday, the Nikkei rose sharply, driven by gains in financial shares and automobile producers. Among the notable performers, Toyota Motor gained 1.46 percent, while Honda Motor saw a rally of 2.07 percent. However, not all automotive stocks fared well; Nissan Motor plunged by 7.82 percent. Broader market trends reflected a mixed performance, with major financial institutions like Mitsubishi UFJ Financial and Sony Group also posting modest gains.

Looking ahead, Japan will release its manufacturing PMI for December, which is forecasted to show a slight improvement at 49.5, up from 49.0 in November. This data could provide further insight into the health of the Japanese economy, but with the current market dynamics, investors may remain cautious. The combination of profit-taking and external pressures from global markets suggests that the Nikkei could face challenges in maintaining its recent momentum.
