Good news for anyone who spent the past few days struggling to find recent news or software updates: Google has finally fixed its broken Search time filter feature.
We recently reported that Google Search’s time filters — such as “Past 24 hours,” “Past month,” or custom date ranges — had stopped working globally. Instead of isolating results to your chosen timeframe, Search returned a random mix of old and new content, forcing users to rely on manual search operators as a workaround.
That workaround required users to bypass the dropdown menu entirely and add date operators directly to their search queries — for example, adding “after:2026-08-01” to restrict results to pages published after August 2026. While Google didn’t explain what caused the bug, a Reddit user had speculated that it may have been linked to the JavaScript powering the Search time filter dropdown.
Fortunately, that manual workaround is no longer necessary. Google’s VP of Engineering for Search, Rajan Patel, recently confirmed on X that a resolution had rolled out.
A Google Help Community representative on Reddit echoed the announcement, confirming that the glitch has been resolved . I put it to the test on both Android and desktop, and the time filters are indeed back to pulling up accurate, date-restricted results as expected.
With everything back in working order, you can safely ditch those manual search operators and return to using the standard dropdown filters for your daily searches.
