Google Calendar introduces feature to block unwanted meeting invites from co-workers

Google Calendar has introduced a long-awaited feature that allows users to block unwanted meeting invitations from specific co-workers. This update, which began rolling out today, aims to help users manage their calendars more effectively by eliminating spam and clutter caused by excessive meeting requests.

The new blocking feature enables Google Calendar users to remove any invitations from individuals they choose to block. When a user is blocked, all future events or invitations from that person will be automatically filtered out of the calendar. This functionality is part of a broader effort by Google to streamline user experiences across its suite of products. Notably, blocking someone in Calendar also adds them to a user-wide block list, meaning their invitations will be blocked across other Google services, such as Gmail.

This feature is particularly beneficial for those who regularly receive unwanted meeting requests from colleagues. Users can also block individuals who send invitations from non-Google accounts, although this requires blocking them in Gmail first to prevent both email and calendar invitations. However, this feature is currently limited to Google Workspace customers and Workspace Individual subscribers. The rollout may take up to 15 days for all eligible users to access.

By providing this blocking capability, Google aims to enhance productivity and reduce frustration among its users.
