Fenerbahce players Mason Greenwood and Matteo Guendouzi have both been fined and suspended following a brawl after their Champions League playoff against Lyon. The incident occurred after Fenerbahce’s 2-1 victory in France last month, which secured their advancement in the tournament with a 3-2 aggregate score.

The altercation unfolded when Greenwood and Guendouzi, both former players for Lyon's rival Marseille, engaged in a confrontation with players and coaching staff from Lyon after the final whistle. The timing of these sanctions coincides with the heightened scrutiny of player conduct in European football, especially in light of recent incidents of violence and unsportsmanlike behavior.

UEFA announced that Guendouzi will be suspended for four matches across UEFA club competitions. This penalty includes two matches that are under a one-year probationary period. Guendouzi was fined 50,000 euros ($58,000) for several offenses, including making offensive gestures towards Lyon supporters and inciting the brawl. Greenwood, on the other hand, received a one-match suspended ban and a fine of 30,000 euros ($35,000) for breaching conduct rules.

The repercussions of these actions highlight the ongoing efforts by football governing bodies to maintain discipline and sportsmanship within the sport. Both players will now face restrictions that could impact Fenerbahce's performance in upcoming matches, underscoring the importance of player behavior both on and off the pitch.
