Douglas E. Coltharp, the Chief Financial Officer of Encompass Health Corporation, sold 18,869 shares of the companyโ€™s stock on August 10 for about $2.4 million. This sale reduced his direct ownership in the company by 27%. After the transaction, Coltharp holds approximately 241,000 shares in total, which includes both direct and indirect holdings.

Coltharp's decision to sell comes after a notable rise in Encompass Health's stock price following its recent earnings report. As of the market close on August 10, the stock traded at $125.81, up from a weighted average sale price of $125.38. This increase reflects strong performance metrics, with the company reporting trailing twelve-month revenue of $6.2 billion and net income of $621 million. The current market capitalization of Encompass Health stands at $12.5 billion, highlighting its significant scale in the healthcare sector.

Despite the sale, Coltharp retains substantial equity in the company. His remaining ownership includes 50,508 shares directly held and approximately 191,000 shares held indirectly through trusts and family accounts. This means that even after trimming his stake, his total interest is valued at around $30.4 million, representing 0.2% of the total outstanding shares.

The sale raises questions about executive confidence and future company direction. Although this transaction diminishes Coltharp's direct stake, he continues to maintain a robust investment in Encompass Health. As the company operates a diversified post-acute healthcare platform across the U.S., its ongoing performance will be closely monitored by investors and analysts alike, especially in light of its recent financial successes.
