Nansen's founder says Bitcoin won't dip below $60K

Bitcoin will never fall below $60,000 again, according to Alex Svanevik, founder of blockchain analytics firm Nansen. Svanevik made the bold claim during a recent interview, arguing that the cryptocurrencyโ€™s growing integration with real-world assets has fundamentally changed its risk profile. His prediction reflects a broader shift in Bitcoinโ€™s roleโ€”from a speculative asset to one with more stable, institutional backing.

The shift Svanevik describes stems from Bitcoinโ€™s evolving use cases. Over the past two years, major financial institutions like BlackRock and Fidelity have launched spot Bitcoin ETFs, giving traditional investors regulated access to the asset. Corporate treasuries, such as MicroStrategy, have also loaded up on Bitcoin as a reserve asset. Meanwhile, countries like El Salvador have adopted it as legal tender, and Wall Street firms now offer Bitcoin futures and options. These developments have tethered Bitcoinโ€™s price to broader financial markets, reducing its volatility.

Svanevikโ€™s confidence is backed by recent price action. Bitcoin briefly touched $73,000 in March 2024, a record high, before pulling back to around $61,000. The cryptocurrency has held above $60,000 since late 2023, a psychological and technical barrier it had repeatedly breached in past cycles. Analysts attribute this resilience to increased demand from ETFs and a shrinking supply of Bitcoin on exchanges, as long-term holders hold firm. While past performance doesnโ€™t guarantee future results, the structural changes in Bitcoinโ€™s ecosystem make a return to sub-$60,000 territory far less likelyโ€”at least in the near term.

What happens next will depend on whether this institutional embrace holds. If ETF inflows continue and corporate adoption grows, Bitcoinโ€™s price could stabilize in a higher range. Regulatory clarity, particularly in the U.S. and EU, will also play a key role. A major economic downturn or a crackdown on crypto could still trigger a selloff, but the days of Bitcoin plunging below $60,000 may indeed be behind itโ€”for now.
