Harvey Barron scored a hat-trick as Hull FC secured a 32-18 victory against St Helens on Thursday night, ending a seven-match losing streak. The match took place at the BrewDog Stadium, where Hull had not won in nearly nine years, marking a significant turnaround for the team. The win boosts Hull's chances of avoiding the bottom of the Super League, while it raises questions about St Helens' playoff aspirations.

This match was particularly critical as both teams are navigating challenging seasons under interim coaches. Hull's victory comes at a time when they were just two points above the last-place Huddersfield Giants. Meanwhile, St Helens is grappling with the aftermath of their first loss at York in over 80 years and the recent departure of head coach Paul Rowley. Hull began the game strong but fell behind multiple times in the first half before Barron’s late first-half try leveled the score at 14-14.

Barron struck first for Hull, scoring his opening try in the seventh minute, but St Helens responded quickly. The teams exchanged leads, with Lewis Martin putting Hull ahead briefly before St Helens' Jack Welsby scored just before halftime. Barron's second try just before the break and his third shortly after halftime turned the tide for Hull. The winger's remarkable performance was complemented by Cade Cust, who added another try, effectively sealing the win for the Black and Whites.

Despite the victory, Hull FC remains in 13th place, now tied on points with the Bradford Bulls. St Helens, once a dominant force in the league, is currently positioned seventh, with their playoff fate uncertain as they face upcoming challenges against higher-ranked teams. The match not only highlights Hull's resilience but also puts St Helens' future in jeopardy as they aim to maintain their legacy of playoff appearances.
