Hasan Mahmud delivered a remarkable performance, taking 6-55 as Bangladesh dismissed Australia for just 198 on the opening day of the first Test in Darwin. The visitors ended the day at 96-1, trailing by 102 runs, with Mominul Haque and Tanzid Hasan at the crease, both looking solid.

The match comes as a surprise, as many expected Bangladesh to struggle following a heavy defeat to a Cricket Australia XI in their only warm-up game. Instead, Hasan led a disciplined bowling attack that forced Australia into their lowest Test score against Bangladesh, previously set at 217 during a match in Mirpur in 2017. Hasan's efforts were complemented by fellow bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain, who each took two wickets. The Bangladesh seamers capitalized on the conditions, showing remarkable skill and resilience.

Steve Smith emerged as the lone Australian resistance, scoring 71 runs, while the rest of the batting lineup faltered against the disciplined bowling. Smith acknowledged the challenges faced by the team, stating that it had been a while since they last played a Test match, and the pressure of the situation may have contributed to their struggles. The Australian batting lineup struggled to adapt, with several players falling victim to edges and poor shot selection.

Looking ahead, Bangladesh's strong start puts them in a favorable position to challenge Australia further. The performance not only boosts their confidence but also raises questions about the Australian batting order, which will need to regroup quickly. As the match progresses, all eyes will be on whether Bangladesh can maintain their momentum and secure a historic win against the home side.
