Acer’s new ePaper monitor could make long work sessions easier on the eyes

ePaper displays have traditionally been associated with e-readers , but the technology is increasingly finding its way into larger displays designed for work and productivity. Acer is joining that trend at IFA 2026 with the new EP130K ePaper monitor, which is aimed at professionals, avid readers, and mobile users who spend long periods working on a screen.

The EP130K combines paper-like visuals with a glare-free viewing experience, making it particularly suited to reading and deep work. That paper-like experience is also one of the main reasons ePaper remains appealing for long reading sessions, where the distraction-free presentation can be preferable to a conventional display. The screen also supports touch input, so you can interact with content using a stylus or your finger for writing and drawing.

Acer says the screen offers up to 3,200 x 2,400 resolution at a 60Hz refresh rate, but hasn’t revealed the actual screen size. It supports both color and black-and-white modes, allowing users to switch between the two depending on what they’re doing. Color ePaper has traditionally had compromises around refresh rates and responsiveness compared with conventional displays, so the 60Hz specification is particularly notable here.

Acer also hasn’t revealed which chipset powers the EP130K. That’s particularly interesting given E Ink recently announced a deeper partnership with MediaTek, which includes the MT8115 and MT8126 chips for future AI-powered ePaper devices, though these chips seem more suitable for dedicated e-readers and tablets.

The monitor is designed for mobile use, too. A single USB-C cable can supply power from the connected host device to the low-power display, while the built-in stand lets you prop it up when working away from a traditional desk.

Perhaps the most interesting feature is the EP130K’s bistability. The display can retain its image even after all power sources are removed, so it doesn’t need continuous power simply to keep a static page on screen.

Larger ePaper displays are also opening up uses beyond traditional e-readers, including working with documents, note-taking, and other productivity tasks. That makes the EP130K’s combination of a large, high-resolution panel and touch input particularly relevant for people who want a more paper-like workspace.
